Hanoi Unveils New Electric Bus Routes
On January 17, Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) launched three new electric bus services—routes 05, 39, and 47—marking a significant step toward eco-friendly public transport in the city.
Nguyen Thanh Nam, the General Director of Transerco, explained that this shift to electric buses aligns with the guidelines provided by both the Hanoi Party Committee and the People’s Committee, reinforcing the city’s commitment to green development.
The introduction of 46 electric buses represents the beginning of an expanded sustainable transportation framework that supports Hanoi’s goals of digital advancement and environmental protection.
During the launch event, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, highlighted the pressing issues of traffic congestion and pollution that the city faces.

Towards a Greener Future
He pointed out that advancing public transport reliant on clean energy is essential to overcoming these urban challenges. Hanoi aims to transition its entire bus fleet to green energy by 2030.
At the event, Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh and other officials participated in a ride on the new electric buses, demonstrating their support for this green initiative.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen called on the Department of Transport to quickly propose policies that would encourage businesses to invest in green energy vehicles. He stressed the need for well-integrated infrastructure, including charging stations, to support this transition.
Hanoi’s plan not only includes completing the shift to green energy buses by 2030 but also strives to improve service quality and foster an environmentally-friendly image for public transport, thereby promoting its use among residents and aiding in sustainable city development.
