On December 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department initiated an extensive campaign aimed at reducing crime and enhancing security in anticipation of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) in 2025.
At the launch, Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, the city’s police chief, highlighted the encouraging trend in crime reduction, marking a decline in various illegal activities.
Significant achievements have been noted in the fight against street offenses:
The rate of thefts has fallen by 11.11%, with a remarkable 92.05% of cases being solved.
Crimes involving snatching have decreased by 26.92%, achieving a 91.61% resolution rate.
Additionally, the police have taken action against economic crimes and smuggling, successfully addressing 1,357 cases involving 1,467 offenders.
This two-month initiative, lasting from December 15, 2024, to February 14, 2025, will concentrate on five major crime areas that present ongoing threats: Drug-related offenses, loan sharking, street crimes, cybercrimes undermining social stability, and organized crime with international connections.
Ho Chi Minh City Police will implement proactive and adaptable strategies to prevent criminal activities, ensuring community safety without unforeseen disturbances.
Duong Ngoc Hai, the Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, commended the officers taking part in the campaign and expressed his support for their efforts.
Following the launch, police will enhance patrols to deter crime, while traffic authorities will maintain orderly movement during the bustling Tet period.
Traffic police will play a critical role in preserving road safety and ensuring public order throughout the campaign.
