If you’re looking for the perfect place to stay in Bermuda, these are your best bets.
Bermuda is blessed with a wide variety of accommodation choices, many offering stunning views of the Atlantic even though some hotels aren’t directly on the beach. There are more than 50 hotels and resorts spread out across the island, appealing to a variety of vacationers, including families and couples. From larger resorts to smaller boutique hotels, here are Fodor’s favorite places to stay on the island.
Hamilton Princess & Beach Club
One of the oldest hotels on the island, “The Pink Palace” first opened its doors in 1885. Since new owners took over in 2012, the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club has been infused with a new vibrancy while still retaining its traditional Bermudian charm. Contemporary artwork from artists such as Ai Weiwei, Kaws, and Tom Sachs now decorate the walls, and celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson offers up his inspired cuisine—infused here with Bermudian flavors—at his namesake restaurant. The hotel has the advantage of being located within walking distance from the city of Hamilton. However, guests also have full access to a private Beach Club on Bermuda’s famous south shore. Reached by a 20-minute private jitney ride, it has all the necessities for the ultimate beach day, including beach toys, snorkel gear, and cabanas. Snag a water hammock and a cocktail for an unrivaled beachside experience.
Rosedon Hotel
Surrounded by lush tropical gardens mere steps from the city center, the Rosedon Hotel was originally built as a private home in 1906. It still retains unique architectural features such as its expansive front porch, which is the perfect spot to build your own G&T from Beau’s Bar or sample traditional afternoon tea from the on-site restaurant, Huckleberry. The landscaped gardens and lounges around the pool make the property feel more remote than it is, but take advantage of the pedal bikes on loan or the free beach shuttle to get out and explore from the hotel’s central Hamilton location. Rooms are spacious and decorated with island-inspired details, such as tropical prints and four-poster beds; turn-down service includes your own aromatherapy diffuser each night.
Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa
One of Bermuda’s original cottage colonies, Cambridge Beaches is one of the more remote properties on the island, but that only contributes to its allure. The resort offers several nearby beaches and coves to explore, and it provides one of the only exclusive, adult-only options on Bermuda for those looking to really get away from it all. But while the property is farther away from the hubbub of the city of Hamilton and south shore beaches, its guests can enjoy the on-site amenities, including the Ocean Spa, an infinity pool, three restaurants, tennis courts, and a full-service marina. The isolated location doesn’t mean that Cambridge is not easily accessible to the rest of the island. The Dockyard, a short taxi ride away, provides more restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, as well as access to ferries servicing the city of Hamilton and St. George’s.
The rooms at The Reefs run along a limestone cliff with unrivaled views over the south shore. Owned and operated by a local family, the boutique hotel offers a homey ambiance with the addition of attentive staff providing authentic Bermudian hospitality. One of the main highlights is an on-site, private beach just steps away from rooms with all the amenities you’d expect for a relaxing day by the sea. The hotel also features an infinity pool and La Serena Spa, which offers island-inspired treatments and comfy loungers with unobstructed views of the ocean from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Three restaurants make it easy for you to spend all your days on the property, but with moped rentals across the street, there’s plenty of opportunities to explore the island.
The Fairmont Southampton, Bermuda Resort
If you are looking for a family-friendly resort with the feel of an all-inclusive, the Fairmont Southampton ticks all the boxes. The towering pink hotel sits on a verdant hillside that sprawls across nearly 100 acres. This location allows for views over both the ocean and islands, including nearby Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. With a beach club, resort, and spa pools, a variety of restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, a shopping concourse, a kids’ club and arcade, and a Willow Stream Spa, it’s hard to get bored here. Almost 600 rooms fill six floors, including 74 on the Fairmont Gold floor, making the Fairmont one of the bigger and busier hotels on the island. With so many options and easy accessibility to several south shore beaches, it never feels claustrophobic.
Rosewood Bermuda
Spreading across 240 acres and offering views of both tranquil Castle Harbour and the iconic south shore, the Rosewood Bermuda is built amongst the luxurious Tucker’s Town Houses of the rich and famous. The well-appointed hotel makes it easy to feel like you are hobnobbing with some of the areas well-heeled residents. Upon arrival, you’ll move the elegant island vibe of the lobby to the sumptuously appointed rooms or the peaceful spa. Spend a day at one of the three pools, one of which is reserved for guests 13 and older, or order loungers and umbrellas set up at the beach for a day of relaxation. The Beach Club Restaurant is mere steps away, or you can have lunch and drinks served beachside or poolside. The Rosewood Explorers offers a summer camp for kids, and the hotel has tasty food options and a fountain pool perfect for little splashers, all of which make this a great choice for families.
Grotto Bay Beach Resort Bermuda
Offering one of the only all-inclusive experiences on the island, Grotto Bay Resort Bermuda is just a five-minute drive from L. F. Wade International Airport, making it a good option for those wishing to explore more of the east end of the island. The bright orange facade is hard to miss, situated as it is among lush tropical gardens leading down to a private pink-sand beach, which itself offers a floating water park. One of the hotel’s highlights is its Natura Spa, built inside a 500,000-year-old cave. Spa-goers are pampered on a custom-built pontoon surrounded by the cave’s clear blue water. On-site water-sports facilities, a pool with a swim-up bar, tennis courts, and a gym add to the possibilities. The all-inclusive option at the hotel offers some of the most choices of any hotel on the island, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner at one of the hotel’s three restaurants.
The Royal Palms
On the outskirts of the city of Hamilton, The Royal Palms‘s garden setting is a peaceful alternative to some of the larger, more sprawling hotels on the island. With only 32 rooms, the boutique hotel gets top marks by creating personalized service, with many guests returning year after year. The location also makes it ideal for business travelers, since it’s only about a five- to 10-minute walk from the city center. Rooms are traditionally decorated, and suites even have a separate small kitchen with a refrigerator and a place to prepare food. But Ascot’s Restaurant is one of the best on the island, so you’ll want to enjoy the innovative menu featuring Mediterranean and Bermudian dishes at least once.
The Loren at Pink Beach
One of Bermuda’s newest hotels, The Loren brings a modern, urban feel to the south shore. The property where the classic Pink Beach Club cottage colony once stood, has been reimagined with a sleek design that still firmly emphasizes its proximity to the ocean. Inside the hotel, expansive glass windows allow you to take in the magnificent views from every angle. Ocean-view rooms and suites all have a large private terrace or balcony to take full advantage of the stunning vistas. Inside, they are luxuriously appointed with plush bedding and tasteful decor in neutrals and soft blues. Along with the luxurious setting, the service is equally as lavish, from the front doormen to the restaurant staff. The Pink Beach Club restaurant offers front-row seats to stunning breakfast sunrises.
Pompano Beach Club
Pompano Beach Club, with its perfectly framed water views, has been lovingly run by the same family for over 60 years. With many repeat guests, the hotel takes pride in its warm, personalized service and is chock-full of amenities that make it particularly well-suited to families. The private beach has clear, shallow water, as well as swim platforms you can lounge on or use as a launching pad for snorkeling trips to view the variety of fish just offshore. The hotel also offers guests fishing rods and light tackle so they can catch their own. An on-site water-sports center offers fun activities, including kayaks, paddleboards, and sailboats for rent.
