Vietnam’s Esports Industry: Key Insights from the 2022-2023 White Paper
On December 30, the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) published the Vietnam Esports White Paper for 2022-2023, revealing important information about the country’s expanding esports sector.
The esports market has witnessed remarkable growth following the pandemic. By 2022, the global audience reached 532 million, including 271 million casual viewers and 261 million regular viewers. Looking ahead, estimates suggest that by 2025, the regular viewer count will climb to 318 million, with global esports earnings projected to exceed $1.86 billion.
In Vietnam, the esports sector generated $5.78 million in revenue in 2023, marking an 11.15% rise from the previous year. Forecasts indicate that this figure could reach $8.73 million by 2027, emphasizing the industry’s increasing importance to the economy.
The White Paper emphasizes Vietnam’s ascendant role in both regional and global esports. The nation successfully hosted esports competitions during SEA Games 31 in May 2022 and SEA Games 32 in May 2023, demonstrating its strong organizational skills and dedication to further industry development.
Vietnamese teams have excelled on the international stage, notably topping the esports medal tally at SEA Games 31 and securing fourth place at SEA Games 32. They have also claimed titles in various other competitions, including the Global Esports Games 2022 for PUBG Mobile, the Arena of Valor International Championship (AIC) 2022, and the FIFAe Continental Cup 2022.
