Mr. Phan Minh Hai, who is the Deputy Director of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Beach Management Board, has reported that waves have moved 15-20 meters inland, impacting three local businesses and causing further damage to the area.
Efforts to address the issue include relocating at-risk coconut trees and advising businesses on preparation for potential future erosion.
The erosion is prevalent along the coastal road linking Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, and Truong Sa, affecting nearby key locations like the T20 Army Guesthouse, Tourane Hotel, and Hau Sua Restaurant.
The Board has alerted local authorities about these challenges, attributing them to a severe northeast monsoon and extreme weather patterns experienced in late December.
Suggestions for resolution involve examining the effects of climate change and severe weather on Da Nang’s coastline, along with initiating long-term erosion control measures.
Current actions include moving fallen trees to minimize additional hazards. At Man Thai and Pham Van Dong beaches, significant coconut trees have been exposed, with their roots compromised by the strong waves.
