Vietnam Advances to ASEAN Cup Semifinals

The Vietnamese national football team has advanced to the semifinals of the ASEAN Cup 2024 following a 1-0 victory against Indonesia in their third Group B match at Viet Tri Stadium. After a bye in Round 2 under coach Kim Sang Sik, Vietnam returned with a strong performance.

Quang Hai scored the sole goal of the match, ending a three-match losing streak and breaking Vietnam’s scoring drought against Indonesia.

In their initial match, Vietnam displayed dominance with a 4-1 win over Laos, where Quang Hai made a significant impact as a substitute, providing two assists.

Throughout the tournament, Quang Hai has achieved two assists, ranking just behind Suphanat Mueanta from Thailand, who has three assists.

His crucial goal during the match against Indonesia earned him the title of Player of the Round for Round 3 on the official tournament website, aseanutdfc.com, where he received 40.63% of the votes.

Shawal Anuar was Quang Hai’s primary rival in the voting, having scored two goals in Singapore’s 3-0 win over Timor-Leste, securing 28.1% of the votes. Suphanat Mueanta followed closely with 25%, while Phetdavanh Somsanid from Laos received 6.25%.

Additionally, Quang Hai was awarded the Best Goal of Round 3, receiving an impressive 59.26% of the votes.

Sandro Reyes from the Philippines, who scored the equalizer against Laos, was voted the second-best goal with 18.52% of the votes. Shawal Anuar’s first goal in the match against Timor-Leste placed third with 14.81%, and Patrik Gustavsson’s decisive goal for Thailand in their 1-0 win over Malaysia came in fourth with 7.41%.
