Today, Nguyen Van Huong, the Head of Weather Forecasting at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, reported that the tropical depression in the East Sea is strengthening and is expected to become Tropical Storm No. 4.
The storm has recently moved away from the area near Luzon Island in the Philippines and is now heading towards the Paracel Islands, potentially impacting coastal areas from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai.
The storm is currently advancing west-northwest and is expected to bring strong winds, reaching up to level 8 near its core. “There is a 70% chance that the storm will affect coastal regions from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai,” Huong mentioned. There’s also a 15% probability that it may influence parts north of the Gulf of Tonkin or southern Central Vietnam.
Starting tomorrow, the northern and central sections of the Central Coast can expect moderate to heavy rainfall, which might last until September 21. “Residents should be prepared for possible urban flooding and storm disruptions,” Huong cautioned.
As the storm strengthens, it will also bring effects to the Paracel Islands and the northern East Sea. Coastal areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien – Hue, including areas near Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai, are likely to face severe weather.
Marine activities will be significantly impacted. “All boats should find safe shelter immediately, and aquaculture operations in Thua Thien Hue must take necessary precautions,” Huong recommended.
Additionally, the storm increases the risk of landslides and flash floods, particularly in the midland and mountainous regions of the northern and central Central Coast from the night of September 18 through September 21 or 22.
