On September 29 afternoon, authorities in Ha Giang Province reported a tragic landslide at kilometer 51 on National Route 2 in Bac Quang district, leading to significant casualties and destruction.
The landslide took place around 9 AM, releasing over 3,000 cubic meters of dirt and rocks from a nearby embankment onto homes in the area. This catastrophe resulted in the destruction of three houses and buried five vehicles, including a bus, a truck, and three cars, obstructing about 300 meters of the highway and halting traffic.
In a quick response to the crisis, local police began search and rescue operations and provided support to impacted residents. By midday, teams had found the body of a 53-year-old woman, Ms. Ta Thi H., from Nam Buong village in Viet Vinh commune.
Search efforts continue for two other missing individuals, and authorities are assisting families in vulnerable areas to evacuate and relocate their belongings to safety.
Officials have raised concerns that more individuals may be trapped beneath the debris as additional resources are deployed for further victim searches.
