On October 7, the Philippines hosted the grand finale of Miss Asia Pacific International 2024, where Janelis Leyba from the USA triumphed over 32 contestants to take the crown.
At just 20, Janelis, a business management student hailing from New York, secured the title following a spectacular display. The runners-up included Karen Sofia Nunez from Mexico, Selena Ali from Belgium, Blessa Ericha Figueroa representing the Philippines, and Germany’s Jennifer Prokop.
During the final question segment, Janelis articulated the importance of diversity in communities, stating, “Embracing diversity enriches society. Regardless of our origins or individual traits, we are all equal. By honoring our differences, we foster unity.”
Janelis has made notable achievements in the pageant world, having previously reached the Top 5 in Miss Supranational USA 2024. Besides her modeling career, she is dedicated to child care and education.
Vietnam’s Pham Thi Anh Vuong also made history by breaking into the Top 10, being the first Vietnamese contestant to achieve such recognition. She earned the Best National Costume award for her stunning “Hoa tren chien tran” outfit designed by Nguyen Minh Triet.
Event Highlights
The finale showcased various segments, including swimsuit, evening gown, and the question-and-answer phase. Additional accolades were given in specific categories, such as “Most Popular,” “Miss Congeniality,” and “Continental Queen of Beauty.”
Despite the excitement surrounding the event, some viewers took issue with the lengthy broadcast, which lasted over three hours, describing it as laborious and prolonged.
