Global Support for Vietnam After Typhoon Yagi
In light of the devastation caused by Typhoon Yagi, world leaders have expressed their condolences and support through letters and messages to key Vietnamese officials, including General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
Various nations and organizations are offering both direct and indirect aid, including personnel and materials, to assist in Vietnam’s recovery efforts.
The Leaders of Cambodia, including Acting Head of State Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, extended their sympathies to the Vietnamese government and its citizens, particularly to those who lost loved ones. They expressed confidence that Vietnam would recover from this challenge.
Similarly, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided his condolences and promised to support Vietnam in helping affected individuals swiftly return to a sense of normalcy.
New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon also voiced solidarity, assuring that the country is prepared to assist Vietnam in overcoming the aftermath of the typhoon.
Pope Francis, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, and Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan are among other international leaders who sent messages expressing their sorrow regarding the impact of Typhoon Yagi on Vietnam.
Additionally, Foreign Ministers from various nations, including the USA, Egypt, and New Zealand, reached out to Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son to convey their sympathies.
Expressions of concern were prevalent on social media and official government websites, underscoring the global worry over the storm’s effects.
Beyond verbal support, numerous countries and international organizations have mobilized financial contributions, equipment, and crucial resources to facilitate Vietnam’s recovery process.
By September 16, commitments exceeding $22 million have been reported from 20 nations and international entities. This aid comprises funding for shelters, clean water, sanitation supplies, and other essential items to alleviate the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.
Moreover, Vietnamese communities abroad have shown their dedication to assisting their homeland, with the Vietnam Fatherland Front reporting donations surpassing 600 million VND from overseas citizens.
Overall, overseas Vietnamese have collectively raised around 19 billion VND to aid victims of the storm, and contributions are anticipated to rise in the upcoming days.
