Vietnam’s Women’s Futsal Team Starts Strong in AFC Championship
Vietnam’s women’s futsal team had a successful beginning in the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship 2025, securing a 5-3 victory over Hong Kong (China) in a challenging opener.
Despite the win, head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang raised concerns about the team’s overall performance and emphasized the need for swift improvements ahead of more demanding matches.
Though Vietnam holds a higher ranking than their opponents, they faced difficulties with finishing and defensive coordination throughout the encounter. Coach Hoang acknowledged the challenges faced in this initial game: “The first match in any tournament poses significant obstacles. While the effort from the players is commendable, there are numerous technical areas needing attention,” he stated.
Vietnam established an early lead in the 13th minute when Thanh Ngan prompted an own goal from the rival team. Just a minute later, she scored to extend their lead.
Hong Kong responded with a goal from Wu Choi Yiu, yet Thu Xuan ensured Vietnam retained a two-goal advantage before halftime, putting the score at 3-1.
After halftime, Vietnam struggled to maintain their momentum, allowing Hong Kong to level the score at 3-3 with a goal from Poon Ka Ka. Coach Hoang highlighted this as a consistent issue: “Starting both halves effectively has been a challenge. After conceding the equalizer, we urged players to maintain focus and adjust tactically.”
As the game progressed, Vietnam regained their composure. Thanh Ngan scored again in the 32nd minute, complemented by a goal from Nguyet Vi, finalizing a hard-won 5-3 victory.
“We will analyze the match video to identify areas for improvement,” Coach Hoang remarked. “It’s crucial to begin games better and remain attentive during critical moments.”
This win places Vietnam at the top of Group B, marginally ahead of Iran on goal difference, as Iran also won their opener against the Philippines with a narrow 1-0 score.
Vietnam’s upcoming match against the Philippines is scheduled for 10:00 AM on May 9. A victory in this match would enhance their chances of progressing in the tournament and provide an opportunity to demonstrate tactical improvements.
