Historic Participation in Music Competition
Le Anh Huy made history by being the first contestant from Vietnam to take the stage at the Gala of the 19th ZhongSin International Music Competition, hosted at the Star Theatre, known as Asia’s largest performing arts venue with a capacity exceeding 5,000 seats.
The event’s grand finale unfolded in Singapore, drawing over 1,000 competitors from 25 nations including the United States, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, China, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Russia.
Vietnamese artists delivered outstanding performances, clinching 29 first-place prizes across various categories including piano, violin, vocals, drums, guitar, electric guitar, and traditional instruments.
Additionally, they garnered 27 second-place awards in piano, vocals, and traditional categories, as well as six third-place recognitions for piano and violin entries.
Judges and attendees expressed special admiration for the traditional music showcased by Vietnam. The Di San ensemble, featuring talented musicians Pham Phuong Thanh, Dang Nhat Nguyen, Nguyen Huy Khanh, Nguyen Duc Minh, and Nguyen Duc Nam, earned second place in the traditional category with their performance on the dan Trung, a bamboo xylophone native to Vietnam.
The competition organizers also acknowledged six exceptional Vietnamese music educators and institutions for their invaluable contributions to the field of music education.
Co-organized by Singapore’s National Arts Management Association, the Chinese Musicians’ Association, and the International Music Management Association, the ZhongSin International Music Competition seeks to create a distinguished platform for global musicians and performers.
Founded in 2006, it stands as one of Singapore’s most esteemed and all-encompassing music competitions. As of 2023, Vietnam has been officially authorized to conduct regional qualifying rounds.
