James Earl “Jimmy” Carter, the 39th President of the United States, has passed away.

The former president died on a Sunday at the age of 100.

His son, Chip Carter, shared that Jimmy passed at his home in Plains at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Carter, who has the record for being the longest-living U.S. president, began receiving hospice care at his Plains, Georgia residence in February 2023 following several brief hospital admissions.

Although he served only one term, his presidency was marked by significant achievements, such as establishing peace between Israel and Egypt, even as it faced the challenge of the Iran hostage crisis. Over the years, his image has enhanced, largely thanks to his and his wife Rosalynn’s efforts through the Carter Center in Atlanta and various charitable initiatives including Habitat for Humanity.

“People will be celebrating Jimmy Carter for hundreds of years. His reputation is only going to grow,” historian Douglas Brinkley noted in his work “The Unfinished Presidency of Jimmy Carter.”

His contributions, both during his presidency and after with the Carter Center, earned him several prestigious awards, including the Nobel Prize and the United Nations Human Rights Prize, along with numerous accolades from global leaders and organizations.

Both Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bill Clinton.

”Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter,” Bill Clinton remarked, “have done more good things for more people in more places than any other couple on the face of the Earth.”

Rosalynn Carter, Jimmy’s beloved wife of 77 years, passed away in November 2023.

He is survived by his children: Amy, Chip, Jack, and Jeff, along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
