Abubakar Abdulkadir, a former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB), passed away at the age of 84.

The distinguished elder statesman and dedicated public servant died on Monday due to health complications arising from a hip injury.

His son, Sirajo Abdulkadir, confirmed the sad news to Daily Trust, stating, “He had a hip injury, and while that was healing, he contracted a chest infection. Before then, he had asthma, and that became problematic, which was the reason why he never went back home.”

The funeral prayers for Abdulkadri were held at the National Mosque, and he was laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja following Islamic traditions.

Prior to his passing, Abdulkadir served as a retired permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance, leaving a legacy of excellence and dedication in public service.

Born in 1940, the late Abdulkadir was a highly esteemed administrator and statesman with a remarkable record of national service.

His educational journey included attending Barewa College, Zaria, from 1955 to 1960 and obtaining a degree in economics from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

His professional career began in the North Central State Ministry of Trade and Industry, where he quickly ascended the ranks to become the chief industrial officer and later the acting permanent secretary.

Abdulkadir held influential roles during the military regimes of General Ibrahim Babangida and General Sani Abacha, serving as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the IMF loan and economic adviser, respectively.
