New Districts Established in Adamawa State

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially enacted a new law that introduces 83 additional districts throughout the state.

This new legislation replaces the previous law and significantly enhances the structure of traditional leadership within Adamawa.

The initiative originated from community requests, garnering widespread support from residents across all 21 local government areas.

During the signing event held at the Government House in Yola, the governor expressed optimism that the new districts would help decrease crime rates.

He also mentioned that henceforth, district heads and their personnel will be compensated by their respective local councils.

Although he assured that salaries will be periodically reviewed to meet changing needs, Governor Fintiri emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing the concerns of its citizens.

Earlier this week, the Adamawa State House of Assembly approved the bill to replace and update the existing Districts Creation Law, 2024.

This approval came after the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented its findings.

A detailed examination of the newly established districts reveals that Mayo-Belwa, Madagali, Demsa, and Hong local government areas have the highest number of new districts, with seven each.

Fufore and Jada each have five new districts, while Michika, Gombi, Yola South, Maiha, Mubi North, Mubi South, and Song local government areas have four each.

Additionally, Shelleng, Girei, Ganye, Numan, and Lamurde are each gaining three new districts, and Toungo will see the addition of two.
