Afenifere Demands Proof Against Allegations from LP
Afenifere, a prominent Yoruba socio-political group, has called on Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), to provide evidence regarding his claims of financial misconduct involving the organization in the 2023 general elections.
Recently, Arabambi accused Afenifere’s leadership of mishandling funds.
In response, Afenifere’s Deputy Leader and National Publicity Secretary, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, along with Justice Faloye, issued a statement asserting that these allegations are an attempt to discredit Yoruba leaders.
“Mr. Arabambi’s remarks included claims that prominent members, such as Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, were guilty of financial infractions exceeding N600 million, which were supposedly kept in personal and Afenifere accounts,” they noted.
“It is essential to emphasize that Afenifere’s choice to support the presidential candidacy of Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed, and by extension, the Labour Party, stems from our deep-rooted commitment to Nigeria’s harmonious existence and equitable representation among its various nationalities, coupled with a dedication to effective leadership aimed at the nation’s development.”
“The involvement of our members at different levels of the Campaign Council was a response to a call for service, expectedly without any financial gains,” the statement concluded.
