Julius Abure
The Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, has revealed that activist Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Itua Ighodalo oversaw the management of the party’s campaign funds during the 2023 elections.
Abure clarified that it was Yesufu and Ighodalo who were signatories to the campaign funds, countering widespread rumors that the party itself managed them.
During a recent press conference, following a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, he addressed concerns about the financial management within the party.
He firmly rejected allegations of mismanagement, stating: “The party did not take part in the distribution of these resources. Our focus was primarily on electing a president for our party, and the method of doing so was not our responsibility.
“As such, we granted them complete autonomy, allowing them to decide how to manage the campaign funds as they wished. We remained supportive by permitting them to handle these resources.”
Abure emphasized that the party was not involved in soliciting campaign donations, which were instead directed to designated accounts managed by Yesufu and Ighodalo. They also took charge of compensating polling unit agents, a duty that the party did not manage.
