The Nigerian Correctional Service in the Federal Capital Territory has arrested Precious Yusuf for an attempt to smuggle drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.
The Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Samson Duza, made this known in a statement released in Abuja.
Yusuf disguised herself as a visitor to an inmate on Tuesday, July 9, when she entered the Kuje custodial centre. During a routine search, officers discovered suspected Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs concealed in food packs in a carton.
The culprit admitted to being tasked with delivering the substances to an inmate at the custodial centre.
Following the discovery, the Controller, FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, instructed that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Usman cautioned against drug peddlers attempting to smuggle illegal substances into custodial centres under the guise of visits, emphasizing the vigilance of the officers to thwart such activities.
The public and well-meaning individuals were urged to assist the Service in its efforts to maintain a safe environment and were assured of the secure detention of those lawfully held.
