Arinze Obiwenite was apprehended after police received reports that he had been confining his children in a room for five years and was allegedly engaging in sexual activities with his 12-year-old daughter. After being informed of the situation, the commissioner of the state Ministry for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, visited the Traditional Ruler of Abacha community, Igwe Nwabunwanne Odiegwu, to notify him of the incident. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had been deceiving people by presenting himself as a Christian who gives solutions to people seeking answers.
When questioned, the daughter revealed that her father had been sexually abusing her while also molesting her younger siblings. Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to being married to 11 wives but stated that he did not live with any of them at the moment. Furthermore, items such as a list of names he had killed and would kill, a hollow grave in his backyard, and some native medicines were found at his residence.
The suspect was then arrested by the police and transferred to the state criminal investigative department in Awka. He was arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka on March 23, where he was remanded at the Correctional Centre Amawbia. His daughter was taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical examination and possible treatment.
