Are All Pixar Movies Available on Disney+? Why Is ‘Incredibles 2’ Still on Netflix?

Turns out, not every Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar movie is available on Disney’s streaming platform. Why are some Disney-owned movies still available on Netflix? Will Incredibles 2 ever join the Disney+ library? Here’s what we know about these two streaming services and their pre-existing licensing agreements.

Disney movies were available on Netflix prior to the launch of Disney+

Disney didn’t always have millions of subscribers to their streaming service, Disney+. Before The Mandalorian, before Baby Yoda, and before Nini and Ricky of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, some Disney-owned content was available exclusively on the company’s now-competitor, Netflix.

Polygon reports, “The partnership began in earnest in 2016 when Marvel movies and Disney’s animated features started trickling on to the service. But even by then, it was clear Disney had its own plan for the streaming wars; in April 2017, the company announced that the deal wouldn’t be renewed and all Disney titles would revert back to home base.”

However, since November 2019, the Walt Disney Company launched its own subscription service, complete with original content and movies dating back to the 1930s. Thanks to pre-existing partnerships, movies and television shows produced by Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Lucasfilm are also available for binge-watching.

Some Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar movies are still housed on Netflix, including ‘Incredibles 2’

Due to Disney’s initial relationship with this streaming platform, some Disney-owned movies and television shows continue their run on Netflix, even months after Disney+ premiered. (That could be why movies like Coco joined Disney+ a few weeks after its launch date.)

Movies still available on Netflix include Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar blockbusters, like Incredibles 2, Bolt, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War.

While some of these movies overlap with Disney+’s library, some agreements that blocked certain movies from their debut on Disney’s streaming platform. Pixar’s 2018 sequel, Incredibles 2 is not yet available on Disney+. Instead, a message pops up that reads “due to existing agreements, this title will be available on July 30, 2020.”

Which Marvel, Pixar, and Disney movies are coming to Disney+ during 2020?

From Disney Channel movies to original and exclusive television shows, Disney+ already has thousands of hours of content available for streaming. However, more movies and television shows release on this platform on a weekly basis.

Recently-released movies, in addition to old favorites, will be available on Disney+ during 2020. That includes Disney+ 2019 live-action adaptation of Aladdin, which released on this streaming platform on Jan. 8, 2020. The blockbuster 2019 adaptation of The Lion King will be on Disney+ starting on Jan. 28, 2020.

Disney and Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, Incredibles 2, joins the Disney+ library on July 30, 2020. There’s no word regarding when Toy Story 4 will be on this subscription service. However, some expect it to appear within the coming months.
