Two Men Charged with Yam Theft
On Tuesday, Ige Balogun and Sunday Ojo faced charges in the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State for allegedly stealing 20 tubers of yam.
Both men, aged 20 and 24 respectively, denied the charges brought against them.
Prosecutor Insp. Olasunkanmi Bamikole informed the court that the incident took place on October 12 at around 11:30 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti. He explained that the defendants took the tubers from the farm owned by Mr. Balogun Ali.
According to Bamikole, the defendants were caught by security personnel and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor mentioned that this act is a violation of Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and asked for more time to prepare the case and gather witness testimony.
In defense, Mr. Timi Omotosho requested bail for his clients, assuring the court they would remain present for future proceedings.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade approved bail for both defendants, setting it at N5,000 each, along with the requirement of a surety of the same amount.
The next court appearance is scheduled for November 21 to continue the proceedings.
