The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has taken a firm stance against the actions of the Nigerian government.
ASUU has declared its resolve to prevent the federal and state governments from undermining the university system in Nigeria.
During a protest led by ASUU Chairman of the University of Ibadan chapter, Professor Ayo Akinwole, members of the union emphasized the need to protect the quality of education and knowledge creation in the country.
Professor Akinwole highlighted the issue of funds deducted for various union purposes not being remitted since 2020, labeling it as fraudulent and sabotaging.
The union strongly opposes the use of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), citing violations of university autonomy and ongoing financial irregularities.
ASUU Chairman of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Babatunde Lawal, echoed the call for enhanced funding for tertiary education by governments at both levels.
ASUU’s resistance against IPPIS continues, citing concerns over salary delays and unreleased third-party deductions despite the government’s directive to discontinue its use.
