Atiku Abubakar Urges Edo Residents to Guard Their Votes
Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cautioned against anticipated electoral manipulation in Edo State by opposition forces. Residents are set to cast their votes for the next governor on Saturday, September 21.
During a campaign event in the Ekenwan area of Edo, Atiku, along with other PDP leaders, rallied support for the party’s gubernatorial candidate. He strongly asserted that Edo is not comparable to Lagos, where he alleges that the All Progressives Congress (APC) can engage in vote tampering.
He called on residents to be vigilant in protecting their votes, reflecting on past threats aimed at the PDP during elections. Atiku stated, “Just remember four years ago when they intimidated us; they claimed we wouldn’t succeed in Edo State. But we proved them wrong—Edo is not like Lagos.”
He added, “This time, we will again demonstrate that ‘Edo no be Lagos.’ Votes cannot be stolen here, so it’s crucial to defend and escort your votes. Ensure your votes are recorded and the results are publicly announced—if you do this, no force will alter your decisions.”
Atiku concluded by encouraging the citizens, saying, “You are set to win next week, don’t you agree? ‘Edo no be Lagos.’
This coming Saturday, the residents will participate in the gubernatorial elections. The key candidates in the race include Asue Ighodalo from the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata representing the Labour Party (LP).
