Basketmouth Critiques Filmmakers for Ignoring Nigerian Culture
Bright Okpocha, widely known as Basketmouth, a renowned Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, has voiced concerns regarding his fellow filmmakers’ lack of representation of Nigeria’s vibrant culture in their films.
He pointed out that many recent epic films fail to highlight the country’s cultural heritage effectively.
During an interview with Hip TV, Basketmouth expressed disappointment, stating that filmmakers have missed valuable chances to depict Nigeria’s culture positively.
He remarked, “There’s still a chance to get it right. However, many filmmakers squandered an excellent opportunity to present our culture—it often seems like they merely adapted stage plays instead. It’s disheartening to see most epic films fall short of expectations.”
“Many of these movies have left me underwhelmed, but I remain hopeful for future projects,” he added. “Only a select few films have truly impressed me. I believe we can achieve much more.”
