Renowned British actress, Dame Maggie Smith, has passed away at 89 years old.
The news was disclosed on Friday, September 27.
Her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, shared that she passed away in the hospital that morning.
They released a heartfelt statement saying: “An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end.
“She leaves behind two sons and five beloved grandchildren who are heartbroken over the loss of their remarkable mother and grandmother.
“We extend our gratitude to the incredible staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their compassionate care during her final moments.
“Thank you for your warm messages and support, and we kindly request privacy during this difficult time.”
Dame Maggie Smith gained fame for her performances in Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter series.
She is also celebrated as an Academy Award-winning actress.
