Senator John Enoh, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, has provided an update regarding the Super Eagles’ situation with Libya, following their prolonged detention in the country.
In response to the circumstances, Enoh stated that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is “demanding” that Nigeria proceed to play against Libya on Tuesday.
After being held at Al Abraq Airport for over 15 hours, the Super Eagles members have threatened to withdraw from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Enoh shared on social media that he had a discussion with CAF’s leadership.
He noted: “Earlier today, I participated in a conference call with the CAF President and the Secretary-General.”
“While the CAF President is primarily focused on ensuring the team’s participation in the upcoming match, I emphasized that our main concern is the safety of the players and their return home. I urged CAF to help us prioritize this.”
“It’s essential that the Libyan football federation faces consequences for this unacceptable treatment.”
“We cannot be forced into playing a match under such troubling conditions.”
