The Borno State Police have apprehended two individuals, Ibrahim Abubako and Ibrahim Mohammed, who are believed to be involved in the theft of 25 mobile phones.
According to ASP Nahum Daso, the police spokesperson, the arrests occurred on December 10, 2024, when the Rapid Response Squad conducted a stop-and-search on Damboa Road in Maiduguri.
“During the operation, two 18-year-olds, Ibrahim Abubako and Ibrahim Mohammed, were found in a tricycle with 25 mobile phones of different brands,” the statement detailed.
Daso mentioned that the suspects admitted to their activities in nearby villages along the Borno-Adamawa border.
“They confessed to snatching phones from individuals in various communities, including Mubi town, Tashan Alade, Miringa, Kwaya Kusar, and Biu Local Government Area,” he stated.
The suspects are expected to face charges in court following the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that efforts are being made to return the recovered phones to their legitimate owners.
Daso emphasized the police force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property during the festive season ahead.
“The police are committed to maintaining safety for the public as the holiday period approaches. Citizens are encouraged to stay alert and report any unusual activities in their areas,” he advised.
