Angry women in Uba-Oka Akoko community, Ondo State, protested the brutal killing of a farmer named Sunday Ayeni by suspected herdsmen. The incident occurred shortly after he received compensation for damages caused by the herders’ cows.
The lifeless body of Mr. Ayeni was discovered on his farm with machete wounds and exposed intestines, sparking outrage among the women in the community. On August 12, the women, some half-naked, marched to the palace of Oka Akoko monarch, Oba Adebori Adeleye, demanding justice.
The protesters recounted instances of alleged rape and destruction of crops by suspected herdsmen, leading to a sense of insecurity among farmers in the area. Mrs. Abigail Ojo spoke on behalf of the women, highlighting their plea for increased security measures and government intervention.
The State Police Command, represented by Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, assured that an investigation into the incident was underway.
