The Cross River State Police Denies Releasing Alleged Killers of Eight Months Pregnant Woman
The Cross River State Police Command refutes claims suggesting that it released the alleged perpetrators of the death of an eight-month pregnant woman in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area.
In the incident that occurred on July 26, 2024, Nneoyi Sunday Felix reportedly passed away following a physical altercation involving a couple, Mrs. Ofem Usani Augustine and Mr. Augustine Bassey.
According to the family of the deceased, the couple and accomplices purportedly assaulted the pregnant woman by strangling her, leading to her demise under suspicious circumstances.
Allegations were made that the suspects engaged a quack doctor to extract the baby from the deceased’s womb, disposed of her body at the UGEP General Hospital morgue, and buried the newborn.
After fleeing, the couple was captured when the family filed a petition to the Cross Rivers State police, resulting in the suspects’ arrest at their hideout.
Despite claims that the suspects were set free at the behest of the Cross Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah, the police department’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, stated that the main suspects remain in custody.
Assuring the public of an ongoing investigation following the apprehension of the suspects, the Police Chief emphasized the importance of halting the dissemination of false information.
The Commissioner urged bloggers and social media users to abstain from sharing baseless and malicious content that could harm innocent individuals in the state and across the nation.
Furthermore, the CP confirmed that no suspects related to the case have been arrested and urged anyone with pertinent information to approach the Police Command Headquarters.
