Customs Intercepts Cannabis Petrol Rice Others Worth N770M In Ogun (via Primetweets)


The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, intercepted contraband items valued at N770,666,237 between April and June, 2024.

Area Comptroller James Ojo revealed this during a press briefing in Abeokuta, highlighting the seizure of items such as cannabis, ammunition, petrol, tires, used clothes, frozen poultry products, foreign rice, vehicles, motorcycles, and shoes.

These seizures demonstrate the command’s commitment to combat smuggling and protect borders, the economy, and public health and safety.

The command also achieved a revenue of N92,369,227.00 in the second quarter of 2024, indicating a significant increase compared to the same period in 2023.

“I am delighted to announce that through our concerted efforts and strategic operations, the Ogun I Area Command has generated an impressive revenue of N92,369,227.00 for the second quarter of 2024. Interestingly, this revenue represents about a 52.46% increase compared to the N53,983,622.00 recorded in the corresponding period of 2023.

“Moreover, the Command exceeded the monthly revenue target of N34,122,666.90 in June 2024 by 77.86%.

“Our enforcement activities led to significant interceptions, including cannabis, ammunition, petrol, tires, clothes, poultry products, rice, vehicles, motorcycles, and shoes with a total value of N770,666,237.00.”

Ojo emphasized the importance of continuous vigilance, cooperation, and a united front in combating smuggling and other economic crimes.
