In a diary entry shared on Twitter on Wednesday, March 1, Ed Sheeran revealed that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, had been diagnosed with a tumor while pregnant with their second child. He wrote that the events of early last year had changed his life, mental health, and outlook on music and art. This included the sudden death of his close friend Jamal Edwards, a music entrepreneur, in February 2022. Additionally, Sheeran was taken to court by artist Sami Switch for alleged plagiarism, but he ultimately won the case.
The singer-songwriter went on to explain that he had been struggling with fear, depression, and anxiety and that writing songs had become his therapy. He wrote that he had replaced a decade’s worth of work with his “deepest darkest thoughts” in just over a week.
In May 2022, Sheeran announced the birth of his second daughter, expressing that he and Seaborn were “so in love with her” and “over the moon to be a family of 4.” He has not commented further on his wife’s condition. To mark the occasion, he also revealed the release of his sixth studio album, Subtract, which was inspired by the personal tragedies he had faced.
