Yahaya Bello
On the evening of September 18, officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly raided the Kogi Government Lodge in Asokoro to forcibly detain former Governor Yahaya Bello.
According to a statement from Bello’s Media Director, Ohiare Michael, there were claims that EFCC agents were firing shots.
“We have received reports that individuals believed to be EFCC operatives are present at the Kogi Government Lodge, Asokoro, trying to forcibly apprehend former Governor Yahaya Bello. They were shooting indiscriminately,” the statement read.
It was emphasized that the EFCC must be held responsible for any harm that could come to him.
The incident was described as unnecessary since the ex-governor had previously made himself available at the EFCC’s office for questioning. In the morning, the EFCC had no inquiries for Alh. Yahaya Bello, yet later attempted to arrest him.
This behavior is viewed as unacceptable. It underscores why many believe the EFCC is engaged in political battles instead of focusing solely on corruption. This incident highlights broader issues beyond the anti-corruption narrative. We will keep Nigerians informed.”
