The EFCC has refuted claims suggesting that a sum of N54 billion forfeited by associates of the former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, was divided among certain ministers and aides of President Tinubu in collaboration with EFCC officials.
In a released statement, the commission clarified that its officers have never been involved in any form of distribution of proceeds from forfeited assets.
The commission emphasized that there is no platform for sharing forfeited assets as all procedures for asset recovery and management are clearly outlined in the EFCC Act, 2004, and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act, 2022.
The commission dismissed the claims as baseless, highlighting that the notion of the sharing of forfeited assets is groundless and lacks credibility. It noted that the allegations were devoid of specifics and failed to provide any evidence to substantiate the alleged sharing.
EFCC condemned the dissemination of false information as news and asserted its commitment to protecting its reputation from unfounded attacks.
