Former Official Baltasar Engonga Imprisoned Amid Scandal
A court in Equatorial Guinea has decided to place Baltasar Engonga, the ex-Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, in custody.
Engonga is currently detained at Malabo’s Black Beach Prison, facing serious allegations related to scandalous affairs.
Recently, he was taken into custody due to claims of having illicit relationships with the sister of the nation’s president and several prominent officials’ spouses.
This situation escalated following the discovery of explicit videos during a fraud investigation, leading to a search of Engonga’s personal residence and workplace with little prior notice.
Investigators uncovered numerous CDs containing footage of Engonga’s encounters with various married women, including high-profile connections like the President’s sibling and senior officials’ spouses.
Reports emerged on Wednesday indicating that Engonga had been dismissed from his role at the National Financial Investigation Agency.
Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo has taken over his position following this scandal, as mentioned by Ahora EG, a local news source.
The incident came to light during an inquiry into corruption involving Engonga, and a fact-checking organization, Dubawa, confirmed that he is indeed facing charges and remains in Black Beach Prison.
