The Benue State Police have apprehended the alleged murderer of a Benue State University undergraduate, Erekaa Dooshima, who had gone missing in February and was later found dead. Reports suggest that Dooshima’s body was discovered in a shallow grave in a fenced area near the school on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023. In the course of their investigation, the police arrested Shagbaor Ugosor Japhet, an estate agent who Dooshima had given N150,000 to in order to help her secure an apartment.
According to The Nation, Japhet confessed to killing Dooshima after being interrogated. He claimed that he had used the money to gamble and when he was unable to provide either the house or the money, he called Dooshima and attacked her with a machete. He then took her body and phone and dumped it on the street in an attempt to make it look like someone else had killed her.
Fortunately for the police, the POS machine Dooshima had used to transfer the money to Japhet was tracked, leading to his arrest. The suspect will soon face trial in court.
