Marvel studios has strongly suggested that fans will need to watch the new Disney+ movies to understand the TV shows. For instance, WandaVision and Loki will reportedly set the stage for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness somehow.
How much that is true is up for debate, but now there are indications that it will help if you see a movie first to understand a TV show. More specifically, it will help to watch Black Panther before you see The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
How does ‘Black Panther’ tie into the new show?
Marvel has given us dribs and drabs of information about the first of their Disney+ TV shows, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiering first. No exact release date has been set, but Disney says the rollout will be in the fall.
It is generally known by now that the show will detail what happens as the title characters grapple with life without the original Captain America. It has also been suggested that the government will resist Sam being the new Captain, even though Steve Rogers specifically chose him.
Comparatively less has been known about what Bucky’s story will be. He’s still grappling with his rehabilitation as a good guy after decades of being brainwashed as the Winter Soldier. That’s probably why Steve chose Sam, even though he and Bucky were childhood friends – Bucky is still too damaged to be Captain America.
Screen Rant reports that the end of Black Panther provides a clue as to Bucky’s future. Even before the big battle with Thanos played out, the end credits scene of that movie showed that Bucky was recuperating in Wakanda. Sebastian Stand posted an Instagram recently with the words “White Wolf” written in graffiti. That was the name the Wakandans had given him,
Marvel has perfected the post-credits scene

That’s just one example of how Marvel has turned the post-credits scene into an art form all its own. They certainly didn’t invent the post-credits scene, but they were among the first to make them a regular part of their storytelling.
In the first few MCU movies, from Iron Man through to Captain America: The First Avenger, there was only one post credits scene, which was usually something about Nick Fury setting up The Avengers. The Avengers was the first movie to have a second credits scene, with the gang chowing down on shawarma.
From that moment on, that became the template. There were usually two scenes: The first was a mid-credits scene that set up the next movie, and the second was a post-credits scene that was often, but not always, a throwaway gag. Sometimes the pattern varied. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 got happy with them and included no less than five credits stingers.
What else have we learned about ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ so far?
Marvel released a teaser for the three shows it has ready for Disney+ so far: Falcon, WandaVision and Loki. Most of the attention has focused on WandaVision, with that being the most mysterious concept, and Loki’s preview consisted of a single shot of Tom Hiddleston, but there were clues to be gleaned for Falcon as well.
It was already known that Daniel Bruhl’s villain Baron Zemo would show up, so that’s no surprise. What was more intriguing was a quick shot of a football game with a new Captain America type who is neither Bucky nor Sam. This is another of the supposed villains, agent John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, the real-life son of Kirk.
It will be fun to see if the TV shows will have post-credits scenes too. Perhaps not, since there will be only a one-week gap between episodes, but fans might feel put off if Marvel does not try them. Fans have become so used to post-credits scenes, they’re showing up in non-Disney franchises like Fast and Furious presents Hobbs and Shaw.
