Family Buries Pastor After Keeping Body in Mortuary Since 2021 Awaiting Resurrection (Photo)

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, the body of South African pastor Siva Moodley was finally laid to rest after being kept at a Johannesburg mortuary for 579 days. Moodley, 53, was the founder of The Miracle Centre in the north of Johannesburg and had passed away on August 15, 2021, after falling ill. His family had been hoping for his resurrection, and church members used to visit the funeral home to pray for it. Despite this, a hearing had not yet been set up in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court to grant permission for Moodley to be buried or cremated. Services at the church have continued as normal since his death, conducted by his wife, son, and daughter, and are live streamed on social media. The church has not openly acknowledged his death or informed the congregation of his whereabouts, and staff from Miracle Centre have declined to speak to the media.
