The FCT Police Command is conducting an investigation into the tragic shooting of a university student, David Ilechukwu, in the Kubwa area.
Reports indicate that the 21-year-old Nasarawa State University student was shot on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at a police checkpoint.
In an interview, David’s father alleged that his son was targeted by police officers who falsely accused him of being involved in internet fraud and demanded a bribe of N200,000.
He further detailed that after being shot in the foot, David fell into a drainage ditch and was later assisted home by commercial motorcyclists.
Currently, David is hospitalized, where doctors have confirmed he suffered two broken bones.
SP Josephine Adeh provided additional details in her statement, confirming the incident and acknowledging that the shooters have not yet been identified.
“The FCT Police Command is aware of the shooting involving Mr. David Ikechukwu, reportedly perpetrated by unidentified assailants, described as operating from a tricycle and dressed in blue and black uniforms on November 9, 2024,” she noted.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, has mandated a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and to clarify the events surrounding this incident.”
