The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has announced that the nationwide strike planned by the Nigerian Labour Congress will no longer take place. He stated that the Federal Government had intervened to prevent the industrial action from occurring. At a meeting with the CBN Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, and the leadership of the NLC on Monday, Ngige discussed the implementation of several steps by the Central Bank to provide cash throughout the country in order to alleviate the suffering caused by the prolonged cash crunch.
At the 68th session of the State House Ministerial Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, Ngige said that they were now discussing the implementation of the CBN’s response to the situation rather than whether or not to go on strike. He added that he was confident that the national leadership would not continue with the strike planned for Wednesday. He concluded by saying that when a minister apprehends a dispute, the next line of action is to maintain status quo antebellum.
