Former Legislator Kidnapped as Armed Assailants Murders Police Support in Nasarawa

During an armed confrontation, the attackers shot and killed the police officer who was protecting Dr. Kigbu, as he attempted to prevent the kidnapping.

A former Representative, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, was abducted by alleged bandits while he was en route to Jos yesterday evening.

This incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. along the route connecting Nunku in Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, to Gwantu in Sanga Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

During the altercation, the attackers shot the police escort assigned to Dr. Kigbu, who tried to fend off the kidnapping. Witnesses noted that the bandits fired indiscriminately, leading to a chaotic scene for passing drivers.

Local residents authenticated the occurrence, indicating that this area has long been known for criminal activity.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the Nasarawa State Police Command were met with silence, as calls to their Public Relations Officer were not returned at the time of writing.

The kidnapping of Dr. Kigbu and the death of the police officer highlight ongoing security issues in the region, prompting many locals to urge for a stronger security presence to ensure safety.
