Friendship Goals: Taylor Swift Had the Most Adorable Reaction to Hearing Selena Gomez’s Song ‘Lose You to Love Me’ for The First Time

Selena Gomez’s new single “Lose You To Love Me” from her upcoming album, Rare, is the pop singer’s first-ever number one hit. The album comes out in January 2020, and it sounds like it will be a very personal exploration of the hardships Gomez has dealt with over the past few years. Gomez explained in a recent radio interview that her very close friend Taylor Swift was one of the first people to hear the new song. Swift’s reaction to “Lose You to Love Me” will melt your heart.

Selena Gomez played her new song ‘Lose You to Love Me’ for her friend Taylor Swift and her parents

Recently, Gomez said in an interview with KISS UK that sharing her new song “Lose You to Love Me” with Taylor Swift was an incredibly memorable experience.

“I was with her when I played her some of it,” Gomez explained. “I’ll never forget when I did play the video for ‘Lose You to Love Me’ and ‘Look at Her Now’ at her house with her parents.” Gomez explained that she has a close relationship with the Swift family.

“It was one of the coolest experiences,” Gomez continued. “I’ve been friends with her for over a decade and love her family as well.” Gomez added that it was rather spur of the moment, too.

“I was like, ‘Do you just maybe see the video?’” Gomez asked Swift. “She’s like, ‘Amazing, of course,’” Gomez remembered that Swift took it very seriously.

“It was so hysterical,” she said. “She just started turning off every single light off in the kitchen. And I was like, ‘This is not that intense, Taylor.’”

The ‘Lover’ singer-songwriter reached the height of friendship in her reaction to Gomez’s songs

Gomez explained that Taylor Swift’s mom also saw the video. Their reaction was next-level.

“She played it and her and her mom just started crying,” Gomez remembered. “Like, just tears and tears and all of a sudden, it stopped.” The “Me and My Girls” singer started to get emotional in the interview.

“It’s going to make me cry thinking about it,” she said. Gomez explained it’s not just that international pop sensation Taylor Swift liked her song: “which is a lot, coming from her.” It was more about their long-term personal connection.

“It was just that they had been on that journey with me intimately,” Gomez said. “They were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life.” The singer revealed that her life used to involve “horrible things—the abuse, the emotional chaos.” But seeing Taylor Swift and her mom’s reaction was “a huge sigh of relief” for Gomez.

“To see her and her mom feel that way, it was very sweet,” she said. “It’s like an older sister and an aunt proud of their [friend]. It felt great to have people I love see it as that.”

Is ‘Lose You to Love Me’ about Justin Bieber?

Selena Gomez fans have spotted many references to Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber in her new hit song. It would make sense, however, Gomez hasn’t named him specifically as an influence on “Lose You to Love Me.”

“This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album,” the 27-year-old singer released in a statement. “I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.”

No matter who the song is about, it is amazing that Gomez has friends like Swift (and her mom) to help her become that best version of herself.
