Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State commended the people of the Southeast for refraining from taking part in the ongoing protest against hunger in the country.
He praised the decision made by the residents of the region, stating that it displayed wisdom to avoid potential hijacking of the protest by hoodlums.
Uzodimma, in a statement released on Friday, recognized the citizens’ right to peaceful protest and highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the nation’s challenges.
He also alleged that the protest against hunger was instigated by politicians who have contributed to the nation’s economic hardships.
The Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum expressed, “I applaud the people of the South Eastern region for listening to our advice not to join the national protest. Your discernment in identifying the risks of potential disruptors targeting peaceful demonstrators is truly laudable.
While peaceful protest is unquestionably a citizen’s right, your choice to prioritize safety and stability demonstrates great wisdom.
“It is regrettable that those responsible for our current economic difficulties are now backing protests instead of collaborating with the government for solutions. This is a response to having a President who is bold enough to dismantle the entrenched group exploiting our common resources.”
Uzodimma urged Nigerians to stand with President Tinubu and encouraged protesters to engage in constructive dialogue.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has exhibited empathy and resolve in addressing the inherited challenges. He merits our steadfast support as he strives for a brighter future. Let us unite in this endeavor through dialogue, the optimal approach to achieving our demands,” he concluded.
