Umara, the son of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, has denied rumors claiming his involvement in a murder case in India.
This follows prior statements from the Borno State government refuting allegations of his arrest related to the incident.
Reports on social media indicated that Umara, a student in New Delhi, was accused of assaulting a Chinese national with a bottle during a dispute over a woman at a nightclub, leading to the death of the individual.
In response to these claims, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Zulum on New Media, released a statement emphasizing that none of the governor’s sons were engaged in any criminal activities.
Bundi clarified that Umara had not been arrested or charged with any offense.
In a brief 35-second video shared on social platforms, Umara himself denounced the accusations as unfounded and false.
He highlighted that the allegations were intended to smear his father’s reputation. Umara made these statements at the Government House in Maiduguri.
“Dear fellow Nigerians, I, Umara Babagana Umara Zulum, would like to address the damaging lies circulating about me,” he stated.
“I have become aware of baseless claims accusing me of involvement in a nightclub incident resulting in someone’s death. This is entirely untrue. Their aim is to besmirch my father’s name. I have been in Maiduguri, with my family, for the past two months,” he affirmed.
