A New Year’s Day interview with rock star Meat Loaf in U.K.’s Daily Mail went viral the first weekend of 2020. Not because he has new music, and not even because he’s forsaken his carnivorous nomenclature to promote vegan food, which was the purpose of the interview. It was the singer’s comments about Greta Thunberg that made headlines.

Greta Thunberg was the person of 2019
Time Magazine named Greta Thunberg Person of the Year for 2019. Thunberg began protesting Sweden’s government at age 16. She demands action on climate change and has inspired young people around the world to join her in climate strikes, along with people of all ages.
Not everybody was thrilled with Time’s choice. Donald Trump of course tweeted his thoughts about Time choosing Greta Thunberg and Meghan McCain agreed with him. Joe Rogan also complained that she was too young to be the most important person of the year. Now you can add Meat Loaf to the list of Greta Thurnberg haters.
Meat Loaf’s many comebacks
Meat Loaf’s music career got a major boost when he went from The Rocky Horror Show on stage to The Rocky Horror Picture Show as Eddie. His studio album Bat Out of Hell became one of the best selling albums of all time, but subsequent albums in the ‘80s didn’t match the popularity, and he started losing his voice.

Meat Loaf experienced a major comeback with Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell in 1993 with the hit song “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That).” His acting career thrived with roles in Fight Club, Spice World and The Mighty.
He produced more albums and performed tours throughout the ‘90s, and even did a Las Vegas residency in 2013. In 2017, the musical Bat Out of Hell, based on the songs by his longtime songwriter Jim Steinman, opened in the U.K. and traveled to Toronto and New York.
What Meat Loaf thinks of Greta Thunberg and climate change
At the end of the Daily Mail interview, Meat Loaf shared his thoughts about Greta Thunberg. It seemed to come up in relation to President Trump. Meat Loaf was a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice with Trump in 2010. Whatever steered the interview that way, he expressed his outrageous belief about Thunberg.
“I feel for that Greta,” Meat Loaf said. “She has been brainwashed into thinking that there is climate change and there isn’t. She hasn’t done anything wrong but she’s been forced into thinking that what she is saying is true.”
Twitter reacts to Meat Loaf’s accusations of Greta Thurnberg
Once Meat Loaf’s interview spread, Twitter users mocked the singer both for denying climate change and for picking no Greta Thunberg. John Fugelsang quoted the lyrics to his landmark song “Paradise by the Dashboard Light.”
Wrestler David Starr went with “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.”
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee director/producer/correspondent Allana Harkin was confident Greta Thunberg wouldn’t be upset.
This Twitter user was on her side too, writing, “Couldn’t you just deny climate science without attacking a kid?”
Greta Thunberg has not commented on Meat Loaf yet.
