Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has a new song out, just months after the release of her seventh album, Lover. The track is titled “Christmas Tree Farm,” and she released it just in time for the holiday. Read on to learn how fans knew the song was coming.

Swift has been teasing this song for a long time
Swifties always seem to know when their favorite artist is working on a big surprise. There were lots of hints about “Christmas Tree Farm,” dating back quite a while. In the music video for “Me!” (released in April 2019,) a Christmas tree is shown in the opening scene. Fans later assumed this was an Easter egg for the “Lover” lyrics “We can leave the Christmas lights up ’til January,” but now it looks like it was even more specific.
Additionally, Swift has been teasing fans even more with some of her recent social media posts. She shared several photos from her Vogue cover shoot on Dec. 1, 2019. One of them features her in a very festive Christmas outfit, which she captioned “Bored girl at the holiday party.”
When does ‘Christmas Tree Farm’ come out?
Swift took to social media to announce “Christmas Tree Farm” early on Dec. 5, 2019. She posted a video in which she began, “OK, I know this is pretty wild, but I’ve just written a Christmas song. I feel like it’s weird to just wait a year to put it out. So I don’t know what to do. I don’t have anyone to ask right now, except for…”
The cat-loving artist then went around her home and asked each of her cats, Meredith, Benjamin, and Olivia, in turn, if she should release the song. Though they didn’t give her any answers, she wrote that she decided to “just put the song out anyway” at midnight ET on Dec. 6, 2019.

Swift gave us the title, the theme, and the date of the track. But Swifties are never done investigating. And fortunately, the singer-songwriter herself is usually ready with some clues, especially on Tumblr.
An old post of Swift’s in which she parodies a couple of pop culture moments (such as the film Mean Girls) also specifically references growing up on a Christmas tree farm. On Dec. 5, 2019, she reblogged it, indicating that yes, this is going to be a song about her childhood.
A music video is also coming
In addition to the song, we’re getting a brand-new music video. Again, this is definitely a song in which Swift will sing about her life growing up in Pennsylvania, because, as she notes, it’s made up of home videos.
The video will premiere on Good Morning America on Dec. 6, 2019. Get ready for what looks like it will be a truly wholesome classic. What more could you want from Swift, especially at this time of year?
