How Ashton Kutcher’s Investments Made Mila Kunis’ Quarantine Wine a Reality: ‘I Married a Person Who’s Brilliant and Smart’

Actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have a love story that many find enviable. After meeting on the set of That ’70s Show, they remained friends for many years before getting together in 2012. Today, they’re just as in love as ever, working together on a different kind of project. Here’s a look at it, and how Kutcher’s business ventures made it happen.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are a very charitable couple

Kutcher and Kunis have been together for eight years now. Over this time, both have been in the spotlight a lot. Even while having their two children, Kunis managed to star in numerous films, like the Bad Moms franchise. And Kutcher starred in two sitcoms: Two and a Half Men and The Ranch.

But neither has spent much time attending the typical Hollywood events. Instead, they’re known for going to smaller charity functions, like the PingPong4Purpose event in August 2018 (above). This is reflected in their attitudes toward money. Kutcher famously said that their children, Wyatt and Dimitri, won’t get trust funds — instead, money they might have set aside for them will go to charity.

Kutcher is known for his investments and business ventures

In that same interview, Kutcher spoke about how he would invest if his children ever came to him with business ideas. This makes sense, given what he’s done with his own money. The actor, who has an estimated net worth of around $200 million, has co-founded not one but two venture capital firms.

First was A-Grade Investments, which came about 2010. Through it, Kutcher has invested in such well-known companies as Uber and Airbnb. He also invested in restaurants and various startups. More recently, Kutcher founded Sound Ventures.

Now, Kutcher, along with Kunis, has created his own product: The “Quarantine” Pinot Noir. It can be purchased exclusively through Nocking Point Wines, which was co-founded by Arrow actor Stephen Amell. And when you buy it, all of the money — that’s right, 100% of the proceeds — goes to charity.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 4, 2020, Kutcher gave Kunis all of the credit for the idea. But she says he was also instrumental in the process. “I married a person who’s brilliant and smart and can make things happen very quickly,” Kunis said, adding that she has “lots of ideas” and “once in a blue moon, they stick.”

She continued, saying that the idea came after friends asked them how they should give back during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “I realized how good I selfishly felt when I was able to donate. And so, in a weird way, I just combined both my favorite things: Drinking and donating.”

Kutcher’s work with one company helped a lot

How did this all come about so fast? They credit Nocking Point, adding that “people were very generous with their time” when they learned all of the money would be donated. But when it came to the specific charities they chose, which they said “had to fill certain quadrants,” it helped that Kutcher had a lot of connections.

Kutcher said, “I’d been working a lot with Flexport on trying to figure out the PPE issue.” He’s referring to Flexport.org, which calls itself “the operating system for delivering global aid.” The organization set up a GoFundMe in order to get supplies, especially personal protective equipment, to those in need.

The profits from the sale of the wine will go to this cause, known as the Frontline Responders Fund, as well as a few others as detailed on the Nocking Point website. So not only are Kutcher and Kunis a Hollywood couple with a sweet story, but they’re people you can really look up to.
