Early Friday morning saw a 7-storey building hosting various businesses on Sanni Adewale Street in Lagos Island Local Government Area, Lagos State, engulfed in flames.
Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties so far.
The fire, commencing at about 5:17 a.m., generated unrest in the vicinity as residents sought safety. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is diligently working to put out the fire, causing significant damage to items valued at millions of naira.
Reportedly, Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, deployed firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations promptly upon receiving a distress call, with arrival at the scene by 5:33 a.m.
By 7 a.m., Adeseye stated, “Thanks to the prompt intervention of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now manageable.
“Efforts are ongoing to ensure proper ventilation for the safety of everyone in the vicinity.
“Initial findings indicate an electrical surge as the likely cause of the fire outbreak. Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded.”
