INEC National Commissioner Festus Okoye recently addressed the controversy surrounding the transfer of the commission’s Director of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Chidi Nwafor, a few months before the 2023 general elections. During an interview on Channels Television, Okoye clarified that INEC is built in a way that no department is dependent on any one individual. He also stated that Nwafor’s transfer was necessary in order to prepare for the upcoming elections. Additionally, Okoye attributed INEC’s inability to transmit polling units results directly to its portal in real time to technical glitches, which he said have since been fixed. He further reassured Nigerians that the commission’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) will be functional during the March 18 elections.
