The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 21 candidates who submitted counterfeit IJMB results were put forward for 2023 admissions by different institutions.
JAMB, in a policy document obtained by Punch in Abuja, pointed out that 12 out of the 21 candidates were endorsed by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“JAMB discovered that 21 candidates who presented fake IJMB results were recommended during the 2023 admission process. Their recommendations were not approved.
“Twelve of these recommendations came from ABU, Zaria, showcasing a bold attitude. The recommendations were made possible because certificate verification occurred after registration. Five institutions were implicated in the recommendations; JAMB mandates that all certificates must bear the signature of the institution’s Head (VC/Provost/Rector).”
It is worth recalling that in 2021, JAMB introduced the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform for scrutinizing IJMB and JUPEB results.
This introduction followed a thorough operation conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education regarding irregularities and falsification of results, as mentioned in a recent ICPC statement about irregularities in JUPEB Board IJMB exam results, emphasizing the need to address such issues.
JAMB, in an official communication, noted the importance of taking necessary actions to prevent misconduct and safeguard the progress made in the education sector, especially the examination sub-sector, from being undermined by dishonest individuals.
“These proactive actions, along with others in the pipeline, aim to preserve the advancements made in the education sector, particularly the examination sub-sector, from being undermined by individuals with malicious intentions towards Nigeria,” JAMB explained.
