A Quiet Place Part II is the latest movie to delay its release due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. The James Bond film No Time to Die was the first to delay its release from April to November. The family comedy My Spy also delayed its release from March to April. Director John Krasinski took to social media to explain to his fans why he felt it was important to postpone the release.
A Quiet Place Part II was originally planned for release March 20. That would have been just under two years from the April 6, 2018 release of the original. Here’s what to expect in the sequel and Krasinski’s explanation for the delay.
Where John Krasinski begins ‘A Quiet Place Part II’
Spoiler alert for the first A Quiet Place. The film was set in a world that been invaded by monsters. The monsters could not see, but they could hear. Survivors had to learn to hide and keep quiet to avoid detection. It was the third film Krasinski directed.
The Abbott family already knew sign language because their daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds) is deaf. The Abbotts lost their youngest son (Cade Woodward) early because they could not prevent him from making noise. Lee Abbott (Krasinski) did not make it to the end of the first movie, because he sacrificed himself to distract the monsters from his children Regan and Marcus (Noah Jupe).
Evelyn (Emily Blunt) gave birth to a new child whom they kept in a padded enclosure fashioned with breathing tubes. In the end, Evelyn and the kids discovered the monsters’ weakness to a frequency of sound and fought back. Trailers for A Quiet Place II show the Abbotts on the run again and encountering Emmett (Cillian Murphy).
John Krasinski’s reason for delaying ‘A Quiet Place Part II’
A Quiet Place was a huge hit, opening to over $50 million and making $188 million in the U.S. and $340 million worldwide. Anticipation is high for the sequel so people staying home from public places could seriously hurt its box office. But also, horror movies are the most fun in a crowded theater with everybody screaming. It wouldn’t be the same if you wait to see A Quiet Place Part II on video, so Krasinski has your back.
“To all our A Quiet Place fans,” Krasinski wrote. “One of the things I’m most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together. Well due to the ever-changing circumstances of what’s going on in the world aroudn us, now is clearly not the right time to do that.”
No new release date yet
Paramount has not set a new release date for A Quiet Place Part II yet nor did Krasinski mention one. Some early screenings already took place for reporters participating in the press junket for A Quiet Place Part II. Interviews took place in New York. The film had a premiere Sunday, March 8.
“As insanely excited as we all are for you to see this movie… I’m gonna wait to release the film til we CAN all see it together!” Krasinski continued. “So here’s to our group movie date! See you soon! | #AQuietPlacePart2…Take 2”
